The weekend opens with the FIDE Rapid on Thursday, 14 April 2022, with three sections, Open/Major/Minor, 6 Rounds at G25+5, 10.30 am to 6 pm. This is followed by five 7-Round sections starting on Friday 15 April 2022 until 18 April 2022, headed by the FIDE Southend Open and supported by the FIDE/ECF U1900 and three ECF rated sections, U1750, U1600 and U1450. For eligibility, we are using the February rating lists.
For Essex entrants, the highest placed competitor in the FIDE Open will be awarded the title of Essex Champion.
Guaranteed minimum £3,000 Prize Fund. We have chosen a flexible route for the expression of prizes in the current conditions, showing prizes in percentage terms, with a guide amount indicating the minimum prizes, which will increase as entries allow.
We will also have a live games broadcast of the top three boards in the FIDE Open. Bookstall by Chess & Bridge.
