The Southend Easter Chess Festival 2023 will take place from Thursday 6 April 2023 to Monday 10 April 2023 at the Southend Adult Community College, Ambleside Drive, Southend, SS1 2UN. The splendid picture of the venue above is by Brendan O’Gorman.
On Thursday 6 April 2023 will be held the 3rd Southend FIDE Rapid, over 6 Rounds of G25+5 (all moves in 25 minutes plus 5 seconds a move) with three sections, Open, U1700 and U1400. Round 1 at 10.30am, finish by 6.00pm.
The traditional 65th Southend Easter Chess Congress runs from Friday 7th April 2023 to Monday 10th April 2023, with four 7-Round sections: Southend FIDE Open, ‘Leigh-on-Sea’ FIDE and ECF U1900, ‘Westcliff’ U1600 and ‘Thorpe Bay’ U1300. All 7-Round sections will play G90+30 (all moves in 90 minutes plus 30 seconds a move). For the avoidance of doubt, all games will take place at the Southend Adult Community College, address above; the place names in the events in this paragraph are merely the titles of the sections.
This year we have simplified the entry fees with a single entry fee – £30 for the Rapid, £45 for the 7-Round sections – with 10% consessions for 60+, U16 and early entry (but one concession only, per entrant). The Guaranteed Minimum Prize Fund will be £3,000.
