Planning for Southend 2022

The organising committee is busy planning for the return of the Southend Easter Chess Congress, this year; last held in 2019. Venue will be, as before, the Southend Adult Community College in Ambleside Drive, near Southend East station (c2c line). Dates will be 14-18 April, 2022, starting with the 2nd Southend FIDE Rapid on Thursday 14th, then the usual 7-round events 15-18 April.

Much is unknown in these difficult “covid times”. The Omicron variant is more contagious than other strains, but is said to cause a less serious illness. Evidence is suggesting that the Omicron spike has peaked. Things can be expected to be better in April, but we have to set things rolling now. Best advice if you are thinking of entering is get your vaccinations up to date, if you have not already, including your booster.

Covid precautions will be in place: ventilation, masks, sanitiser, social distancing; and the congress will as usual be spread over a number of separate rooms throughout the building.

We’d really like to know what the uptake is likely to be for Southend 2022, so please take a few moments to complete the form below if you think you are likely to enter. The entry form will be available later, including online entry.

Completing and submitting this form is not an entry to the Congress, nor does it bind you to enter. It is simply an expression of interest.

I would be interested in entering the Rapid (check below):

Warning
Please indicate which other event you would enter. All the seven round sections run concurrently, so you can only enter one in addition to the Rapid (above).
